Why do we NEED an Education Enhancement Movement?

Let me begin this post by saying I am a novice teacher who has had about 2 years of internship experience in the classroom. I've spent the last 4 and a half years of my life researching and applying education strategies, only to realize that what we're taught and what we actually do doesn't align. I've become fed up with public education, and I think it needs a swift kick in a better direction. I don't have all the answers, but I'm certainly opinionated enough to tell you what I think can help our schools, students, and teachers.

I think we train amazing teachers. There are so many wonderful programs that train creative, innovative teachers. We are filled with passion and drive to inspire the world, but somewhere in the mix the paperwork and logistics dull the fire we once had. I think administration has become too concerned with standardized testing, that we don't truly prepare students for the 'real world'. Why aren't we teaching our children to be responsible and caring, or how to properly manage their time? I think the general population doesn't understand that being a teacher means you're a parent, a mentor, a counselor, a friend, and sometimes, unfortunately, the only person who gives a child attention. We're asked to focus on tasks that don't truly benefit our students, and we're treated poorly, even though the job that we do is time consuming and stressful.

I think that it's time that we shift our perspective and remember the root of education - to help children and to invoke change into future generations. It's not about rushing through a pacing guide or data on a chart. The Education Enhancement Movement is aiming to provide unique alternate resources for educators and students that go beyond traditional University classroom experience, to raise awareness about the diversity of Education, and inspire change in today's K-12 classroom. I started The Education Enhancement Movement to help prepare, inspire, and educate faculty and students. I wanted to create a space for resources and discussion about different types of education, more creative ways to teach, how to inspire children, special education, etc. The possibilities with education are endless, and I hope that this movement grows into something that will change the way education is perceived.
